What Can I Do With A Major In Theatre?
Primarily done in front of live audiences, theatre is a major form of human expression, taking place in the present, but connecting us to other times and places. Theatre is a creative art in which true excellence can only be achieved through total mastery of the mind, body and technical craft. Through characterization, design, and technology, theatre majors provide a window into the human condition. Theatre is a shared experience between the audience and the performers, both visual and aural. The study of theatre embraces a broad range of skills including acting, directing, design, and construction. Theatre is a dynamic art form, constantly changing to include current issues and new media.
Theatre majors at CCSU have the opportunity to participate in four main-stage campus productions a year (three main-stage and one musical produced in conjunction with the Student Government Association), and between five and twenty second-stage productions. Design students work in lighting, sound, costumes or scenery for main-stage productions, in a variety of performance spaces.
