What Can I Do With A Major In Teacher Education?

Education is a career in which graduates can find the satisfaction of helping people of all ages learn. Teachers are the cornerstone of growth in human society and have the ability to make a large impact on many lives. In addition to being classroom teachers, education majors have the opportunity to pursue careers as administrators, coaches, and counselors. In public schools the most prevalent career route is a result of training in an approved program which leads to state certification while some private schools will not require certification.

The mission of the teacher education program at CCSU is to prepare teachers who have the leadership capacity and knowledge base to develop positive and nurturing learning communities not only in their own classrooms but in the surrounding communities and professional field of educators as well. Teacher candidates, upon graduation from CCSU, will have acquired the capacity to understand and use the knowledge base of teaching; developed a repertoire of best practice at their command; developed the ability to reflect and use critical judgment on their own teaching processes; and nurtured the ability to contribute their leadership to efforts to improve education in a democratic society.
