What Can I Do With A Major In Economics?

Economists research, prepare reports, or formulate plans to aid in the solution of economic problems arising from the production and distribution of goods and services. Economic analysis is applied throughout society, in business, finance and government, but also in crime, education, the family, health, law, politics, religion, social institutions, war, and science

Majors in economics acquire the breadth of liberal arts study plus the analytical and quantitative skills of economic theory. Anyone who intends to pursue a career in business, law, politics, public administration, finance, and the like, will benefit from courses in economics. In general, economics majors are in demand by employers in need of individuals who can be trained easily to perform specific tasks. A background in economics is also particularly beneficial for those pursuing an MBA degree.

Economics majors also may specialize in Operations Research, a highly quantitative approach to decision-making in business, industry, and government.
