Music

What Can I Do With A Major in Music?

Music is an auditory art form incorporating instrumental or vocal tones as its medium. Common elements of music are pitch, rhythm, dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. Music, as a word, originates from the Greek word, mousike, or “the art of the Muses”. Most often defined as a performing art, music has been created, performed, and defined within numerous cultural and social contexts around the world.

Some students pursue careers closely related to music, such as performers, educators, songwriters, conductors, arrangers, composers and actors. Others choose careers behind the scenes, or in the business area of music in careers such as producers, engineers, managers, agents, and in publishing and sales.

Full- and part-time faculty here at CCSU specialize in bass, bassoon, cello, clarinet, composition, computer technology, euphonium, flute, guitar, harp, horn, oboe, organ, percussion, piano, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, tuba, viola, violin, and voice.
