What Can I Do With A Major In Mathematical Sciences?

Mathematics is the study of the measurement, properties, and relationships of quantities and sets, using numbers and symbols. It is a body of related courses concerned with the knowledge of measurement, properties, and quantities, which can include theoretical or applied studies of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus. Mathematics is used throughout the world as an essential tool in many fields, including such diverse fields as medicine, management, economics, engineering, government, physics, and psychology.

Students pursuing a major in mathematical sciences take a variety of courses in the areas of algebra, geometry, calculus, mathematical reasoning, and differential equations. The mathematical sciences program at CCSU offers several specializations, including the standard math program, actuarial sciences, statistics, and certification for teaching.
