What Can I Do With A Major In Marketing?
Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services satisfy individual and organizational objectives and the subsequent strategies that can be used in the areas of sales, communications and business development. It is an integrated process through which companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships in order to capture value from customers in return. Students, who major in marketing, may learn about the six functional areas related to the marketing process - brand marketing, advertising, sales promotion, market research, sales, and retailing. In some cases, students might learn about product development, pricing, consumer decision making, legal aspects of marketing, and global marketing as well.
Marketing is analysis, and a sound marketing strategy is based on this analysis. The adoption of marketing strategies requires businesses to shift their focus from production to the perceived needs and wants of their customers as the means of staying profitable. Essentially, marketing is used to identify the customer, to keep the customer, and to satisfy the customer. Organizational goals depend on knowing the needs and wants of target markets and delivering the desired satisfactions. In order to satisfy its own objectives and obligations, an organization should anticipate the needs and wants of consumers and satisfy these more effectively than competitors.
