What Can I Do With A Major In Civil Engineering?
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design and construction of facilities and systems: buildings, bridges, tunnels, dams, harbors, airports, waterways, highways, drainage, sewage, waste disposal, and environmental health systems. Civil engineers are often employed by the local, state, or federal government, but they can also work in private firms or businesses.
The civil engineering program at CCSU provides students with a broad and thorough education in civil engineering fundamentals, applications, and design that prepares them for the practice of civil engineering at the professional level with the skills necessary to meet the technical and social challenges of the future. The program provides a broad and thorough education in advanced mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering mechanics, and civil engineering, coupled with application of modern engineering tools. The program includes engineering education in structural design, geotechnical design, surveying, highway and transportation engineering, storm water protection analysis, water system design, and environmental engineering.
