Hebecladus weberbaueri Bitter (Repertorium Specierum Novarum Regni Vegetabilis 20: 372. 1924) is a later homonym of H. weberbaueri Dammer (Botanische Jahrbücher für Systematik, Pflanzengeschichte und Pflanzengeographie 37: 638. 1906).

The type specimen of H. weberbaueri Bitter was collected in Peru, Department La Libertad, province Santiago de Chuco, Hacienda Angasmarca, at 2,900 m elevation, in loose thicket mixed with grasses, March 1916 (Weberbauer 7197).

Now (year 2014 and forward) that Segundo Leiva and I know well the Jaltomata species of Peru's Department La Libertad, I ask myself, Weberbauer 7197 is conspecific with which one of the species from the Department La Libertad?

Bitter (protologue) described Weberbauer 7197 as "shrub 0.5 m tall, corolla white, with violet lines at edge of throat and green flecks." J. yungayensis grows in Angasmarca, but J. yungayensis has a predominantly purple corolla, and J. yungayensis has a style about twice the length of the stamens. In contrast, Weberbauer 7197 has a style that is about the length of the stamens, and according to Bitter a "white corolla with violet lines at edge of throat and green flecks."

The undescribed species Jaltomata pauciseminata is excluded because it has very short stamens never exserting from the corolla, and Weberbauer 7197 has stamens exserted (see the flower in the pouch on the US specimen).

Considering the Jaltomata species of La Libertad, I exclude all except J. angasmarcae.

Macbride (1962) placed Hebecladus weberbaueri Bitter in synonymy with Saracha dentata, now known as Jaltomata dentata, but I disagree.

Jaltomata angasmarcae

Hebecladus weberbaueri Dammer

Jaltomata aijana
In an earlier work I listed this binomial as a synonym of J. bicolor, but now the "J. bicolor" specimens of Peru, Department Ancash (not Department Lima) are correctly known as J. aijana
