J. chihuahuensis | n = 12 |
Mione & Bye 1996 | Mexico | Meiocytes were stained by crushing immature anthers with a fine dissecting needle in a drop of filtered acetic carmine. Davis 1180 was grown/used.

J. herrerae | n = 12 |
Roe, 1967 | Peru | The specimen Iltis et al. 972 was used for the count, and T. M. independently identified this specimen as J. herrerae

Menzel (1950) wrote that "One report of chromosome number for Saracha is found in the literature, for S. umbellata, 2n = 48 (Krenke, in Darlington and Janaki Ammal, 1945)." Saracha umbellata DC is actually a Jaltomata (Mione, unpublished; Alvarez, 1996, page 106). Work to be done: track down Krenke's paper and see if Menzel's report of his count is correct and then see if Krenke deposited a specimen at an herbarium |
