    1.      Announcements:

a.     AAUP: President Gendron announced  the Chapter Meeting on 2/6/09 at 3pm, Lobby Day at the Capitol is on 3/18/09 and the Rock Cats Family Day is scheduled for 5/8/09.

b.    SUOAF-AFSCME: No announcements

c.     President of the Senate: President Barrington announced the following:

 

2.    Minutes:The minutes from December 8, 2008 were amended to reflect that T. Reagan was  listed in error on the Ad Hoc Committee to Develop Recommendation for Promotion and Tenure  for Coaches, Librarians and Counselors. Senator Spector moved to adopt the minutes as amended. (Passed)

 

3.    Amend Minutes of April 14, 2007: Senator Karpuk moved to amend the minutes to reflect the correction of a typographical error in the ESCI Specialization in Geology program.  (Passed)

 

4.     Reports:

        a. Academic Assessment Committee:

        Jason Jones presented information regarding the Collegiate Learning Assessment in conjunction             with the Voluntary System of Accountability and requested approval of the Senate on the  proposed resolution. Braden Hosch described the assessment tools administered to students in   2007/08 and 2008/09. President Miller expressed concern regarding the implementation of #2 in the proposed resolution in conjunction with the Voluntary System of Accountability. Jason Jones gave assurances of contextual explanations of posted results. Jason Jones moved for adoption of the proposed resolution. (Passed)

      5.     Unfinished Business:

        a. Faculty Handbook: President Barrington reminded the members to continue to look at the proposed revisions to the Faculty handbook, which are posted on the website and to forward ecommendations and comments to the President or Secretary of the Senate.

        b. Proposed Revisions to  ITC By Laws: Jason Jones moved for the adoption of the proposed   changes as reviewed and recommended by the Committee on Committees. (Passed)

 

6.     New Business:

        a. Diversity Committee By Law Revision: C. Fallahi presented proposed revisions to the By Laws, as reviewed and recommended by the Committee on Committees. (Passed)

        b. Efforts to Increase Student Success: President Miller discussed recent correspondence regarding the advising process and efforts for coordination with student needs and expectations.  He discussed the reasons this proposal is under consideration and briefly described the expectations of  an Advising Center. Provost Lovitt discussed the task force study and expected  results from implementation of a reconfigured Advising Center, which would be combined with Career Services. Comments were taken by the faculty.

        c. Grade Submission Policy: President Barrington charged the Academic Standards Committee to           review and develop a policy for:

·         A mutually workable formula for grade submission dates, and

·         A policy for when grades roll

        d. Process for Administrative Decision Making in Consultation with the Senate: This item is          postponed until a later date.
