Report from the Academic Assessment Committee to the Faculty
Senate
January 26, 2009
The Committee approved the following resolution about the Collegiate
Learning Assessment (CLA) for
consideration by the full Faculty Senate. The Committee recommends its
adoption.
1. While there are concerns about the methodology and meaning of the CLA,
in the context
of NEASC concerns about assessment, the Faculty Senate recommends the
continued
use, and as feasible expansion, of the CLA as one measure of student
performance in
critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem solving, and writing,
subject to continued
evaluation by the Academic Assessment Committee.
2. In order to facilitate the evaluation and study of the CLA, the
Faculty Senate authorizes
the publication of its results on the university’s website.
