Thanks Matt and all of
your colleagues for pointing this error out in the Specialization in
Geology. There is a typo in the course number and apparently happened
when it was transferred from the Curriculum Committee report to the
April 2007 Senate Meeting. The course should read ESCI 223, not ESCI
222. If you go back to the Curriculum Committee Report, you will see
that it is correct.
Therefore, I hope that
whatever is appropriate can be done to correct this to read
Specialization in Geology: 36 credits as follows: ESCI 121, 122, 221,
223, 290, 321, etc. I hope this is sufficient to correct the typo
and there is no other action needed. Please confirm this with me.
Thank you.

Hi Ali!
We have a question
about the BS in Earth Science major, Geology concentration from Fall
2007.
The faculty senate
notes show that BOTH ESCI-222 and ESCI-321 are required. However, these
2 courses are the same as “Structural Geology”.
The question is was
there a typo and another course was meant to be in the list of required
courses? Or should the overall total credits for the
major/specialization be reduced to account for the duplication of the
course?
Here’s the listing
from the faculty senate notes of April 2007:
(b) Specialization in Geology: 36 credits as follows: ESCI 121, 122,
221, 222, 290, 321, 322, 424, and 460. The remaining courses will be
selected from ESCI 178, 431, 450, 490, GEOG 378 or other electives as
selected in consultation with the student\'s advisor. Students must take
an additional 24 credits as follows: MATH 152, 221, CHEM 161, 162, 163,
164, and PHYS 125, 126. An external geology field camp approved by the
Department Chair is highly recommended. A minor is not required. This
program is designed for students wishing to go on to graduate-level
studies in geology, or those who expect to enter professional geology at
the bachelor?s level.
Thanks!
Matt
