2. Announcements: President Craine (Senate)

  1. Committee on Committees will make a report soon on the reporting schedule of various Senate committees
  2. There was discussion generated following the Senate rejection of the Chemistry department minor proposal (brought forward by the Curriculum committee) at the February 13 meeting. The Senate should not be considered to be a rubber stamp for proposals passed by the Curriculum committee. It is appropriate to refer such matters back to the Curriculum committee instead of outright rejection. Biology and Chemistry departments are discussing the issue and expect to revive the proposal in the Curriculum committee.
  3. CSU Trustee Research Award

(Please refer to the e-mail announcement sent out with an application deadline of March 27 due at the Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, CCSU). President Craine proposed an ad-hoc committee of seven faculty of the rank of professors to be formed at the March 13 Senate meeting with at least 1 representative from each School. All nominations to the committee (including self-nominations) should be e-mailed to the Secretary of the Senate by March 10. Nominations will also be entertained from the floor at the Senate meeting of March 13. This committee will establish criteria to select applicants for the Award at CCSU and report back to the Senate. President Craine will ask the Constitution/Bylaws Committee to establish a Standing committee of faculty that will be elected by all faculty.

Motion to accept President Craine’s proposal (Cohen) – Passed with 3 abstentions
