2. Announcements
President Craine (Senate) reminded senators of the revised schedule (approved by the Senate last year) of meeting dates of the Faculty Senate for the Spring 2005 semester (posted on the web site). The University Planning & Budget Committee will hold an open meeting in Davidson Room 123 on Friday, February 5, to discuss its report.
President White (AAUP) exhorted senators (and remind their department) to contact their respective State legislators regarding House Bill 5681 concerning appropriations to increase faculty at public institutions of higher education. She mentioned that March 2 is CSU Lobby Day at the State legislature. She asked that we call, e-mail, write to State representatives, asking for an appointment to meet them that day between 10.30 am and 1 pm to discuss our concerns. The AAUP is putting together talking points after Gov. Rell’s budget on Feb. 9. Students (through the CCSU SGA) are also being contacted to lobby for higher education. A bus will be organized to transport faculty to the legislature on March 2 if there is sufficient interest.
The CCSU-AAUP chapter meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 12 – 3 pm in the Marcus White Living Room.

New Business:
a. State of the Senate report by President Craine
President Craine referred to two specific issues in the context of the Senate’s role (ref. Articles 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 of the Constitution) in the shared governance of the university.
1. University College proposal will be presented for a vote in the Senate on March 28. President Craine expressed concerns on its impact on faculty loads and budget, and at the possible growth in the administration. He hoped faculty will retain its primary role on curricular matters. There will be an an open forum for further discussion of the report on February 4, from 1-3 in Davidson 123. Faculty, administrative faculty, and all others interested in this issue are invited to attend.
2. Faculty space issues related to Sec. 2.3 of the Senate constitution.
President Craine asked that faculty/staff be consulted on space issues and that
the rationale for any decisions meet the university's mission and
strategic plan.
b. Diversity Committee report from Senator Salinas (chair) dealt with issues that have come up before the committee over the last year. They related to curriculum, events and university policy.
On curriculum, the question was of designating courses for diversity. Sen. Salinas invited the university community as a whole to help organize diversity events. The committee would help coordinate these events and act as a clearing house. The committee was concerned on issues related to hiring of administrators and the role of the diversity committee in this for the future to ensure transparency, openness and fairness in the process.
5. Motion to adjourn: Wolff/Terezakis
