Professor Paul Zeleza, the Northstar Distinguished Scholar and Associate Provost at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio, agreed to the inclusion of his illuminating piece on university funding, in this issue of Africa Update. Professor Akinwumi Ogundiran, Chancellor’s Professor, and Professor of Africana Studies, Anthropology and History, at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, kindly agreed to focus on the Africa -related presentations at the 136th American Historical Association (AHA) annual meeting in Philadelphia, January 2023. Prof. Ogundiran is chair of the 2023 AHA annual meeting program committee. This issue of Africa Update also includes an abridged interview with the great scholar, Professor Abdul Karim Bangura, a holder of five PhDs from several U.S institutions.

We thank the scholars for their contributions to this issue of Africa Update.
