a. Minutes of November 26, 2018
- Approved unanimously
2. Announcements:
a. AAUP President (L. Williams)
- The Chapter Meeting and Social is on Wednesday, December 5, from 3 to 6pm, in the Connecticut Room.
b. SUOAF-AFSCME President (L. Bigelow)
- The Social Meeting is on Wednesday, December 12, from 12noon to 2pm.
- SUOAF-AFSCME is holding a toy drive for Toys for Tots.
- The deadline for changing retirement plans from ARP to SERS is Friday, December 14.
c. SGA (K. Fruin)
- The SGA thanks the Academic Advising Committee for supporting a student information session (Tuesday, December 4, 3-6pm) for students to provide information to the committee about advising. There will be door prizes.
- CentralTHON raised over $3,000 for Children's Miracle hospitals.
d. FAC to the Board of Regents (S. Adair)
- On Friday, November 30, a special FAC meeting was held, featuring a discussion with Barbara Brittingham, the President of NECHE, regarding "Students First" and the Community College consolidation. There are still numerous concerns about the BOR's plan.
- Norwalk Community College has approved our resolution on freezing the activities fo the BOR, and has unanimously rejected the BOR's Common General Education proposal.
- Senator Blitz proposed the creation of a database of votes of no confidence and other actions taken by governance bodies related to the BOR's actions. Senator Mendez-Mendez talked about the importance of educating the press.
e. President of the Senate (M. Jackson)
- Senators are encouraged to find tenured faculty from their department to serve on Faculty Hearing Boards for academic dishonesty cases.
- Senator Bishop mentioned the Diversity Curriculum Development Grants, whose application deadline is January 25.
- The creation of the new Faculty Senate Listserv is in progress.
3. Committee Reports
a. Academic Standards Committee (M.P. Bigley for R. Boncoddo)
- Approved unanimously
b. Graduate Studies Committee (E. Leonidas)
- Item II.A, criterion 5 was clarified to state that "within five years of admission" means "taken withing five years prior to admission", and the report was approved unanimously
c. Curriculum Committee (B. Merenstein)
- Approved unanimously
4. New Business
a. Resolution of Appreciation to Ned Lamont for his work as Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Political Science (M. Jackson, D. Blitz, R. Smith, C. Austad)
- Ned Lamont’s Teaching and Other Activities at CCSU: 2006-17
- Ned Lamont presentation posters
- Louise Williams, President of CCSU-AAUP, was added as a signatory
- Approved (one senator opposed)
