1. Minutes
a. Minutes of October 16, 2017
- Approved unanimously
2. Announcements:
a. AAUP President (L. Williams)
- The budget that the legislature has approved cuts $38 million from CSCU, which is better than the $94 million in the one that Governor Malloy vetoed. President Ojakian thanked the faculty for participating in efforts to influence the legislature.
- The event, "Politicians, Pens, and Pizza", will be held on Wednesday, November 1 at noon, in the Connecticut Room.
- This week is Campus Equity Week, and the Day of Action is on Tuesday, October 31, from 10am to 3pm, in the Sprague Carlton Room in the Student Center. Join us to recognize our part-time colleagues, who are 53% of the faculty at CCSU.
b. SUOAF-AFSCME President (L. Bigelow)
- No announcements.
c. SGA (B. Kruh)
- 25 students participated in a Good Neighbor Campaign event on Friday. They picked up trash in the neighboorhood. The goal is to foster good relations between students and other residents of the neighborhood.
- Competition for a Cause is happening again this year (until November 17); some of the food will be donated to Maria's Place, an on-campus food pantry. Contact the SGA if you would like to have a donations box.
d. FAC to the Board of Regents (S. Adair)
- At the BOR meeting, there was a presentation on "Students First" and on community college consolidation, but no vote; the current plan is to have a vote in December. The claim is that, out of the approximately 90 recommendations in the reports, only 5 or 6 require BOR approval. The claimed projected savings are $42 million. There does not seem to be data to back up the claim.
e. President of the Senate (S. Cohen)
- The BOR's "Students First" proposals are open for comments until November 20.
- The Senate President has nominated Sharon Clapp of the Library to represent CCSU on the "CSCU OER Advisory Council".
- Motion (Foster/Adair): The Faculty Senate endorses the nomination of Sharon Clapp to the CSCU OER Advisory Council.
- Approved unanimously
- There will be a workshop for faculty on Open Educational Resources, on Thursday, November 9, from 3:00 to 4:15pm, in the Sprague-Carlton Room of the Student Center.
3. Committee Reports
a. Food Service Task Force (J. Alicandro and M. Warshauer) (postponed to November 13)
b. Academic Standards Committee (G. Givens for J. Schnobrich-Davis)
- Approved unanimously
c. Curriculum Committee (B. Merenstein)
- Motion: To refer the bylaws changes to the Committee on Committees, and to approve the rest of the report.

4. Adjournment
- The meeting adjourned at 3:53pm.
