2. Introduction of Senators
3. Announcements:
a. AAUP President (M. A. Mahony)
- There will be an election for Vice President of CSU-AAUP. Elena Tapia, the former Vice President, is now President.
- Members are urged to pick up their red T-shirts in the AAUP office, and wear them.
b. SUOAF-AFSCME President (L. Bigelow)
- The chapter meeting is on Monday, September 26 at 12 in the Nutmeg Room.
- The chapter election will be on October 18; members must vote in person (not electronically).
c. SGA (J. Effend)
- Faculty members were asked to encourage their students to apply for an SGA scholarship.
- There will be an anti-discrimination rally on September 29.
- The SGA's Good Neighbor Campaign is ongoing; its goal is to foster good relations between students and the New Britain community.
- The SGA would like a permanent committee on affordability of textbooks.
d. FAC to the Board of Regents (S. Adair)
- Former BOR Chair D'Onofrio has been replaced with Matt Fleury, the director of the Science Center.
- There is a new system Provost, Jane Gates, former WCSU Provost.
- BOR President Ojakian has started 6 workgroups (retention & enrollment, compliance, financial aid, human resources, purchasing, marketing); each workgroup has 2 FAC members.
- The FAC conference on Student Success and Shared Governance will be on April 7 at CCSU.
- The BOR meets this week at SCSU.
- There is a new BOR award for shared governance.
e. President of the Senate (S. Cohen)
- President Cohen spoke of the Presidential Search, which is ongoing. The 3 finalists will be on campus on Monday 9/26, Tuesday 9/27, and Wednesday 9/28. Faculty are encouraged to attend open forums and submit feedback.
- The Senate should expect to discuss the budget situation and curricular issues (especially general education) this year.
- One item on the agenda is to improve communicaiton between committees and the Faculty Senate.

a. Elections Committee
- Senators Austad, Bigelow, Kapper, Latour, Nelson and Sweeney elected to the elections committee.
b. Excellence in Teaching Committee - School of Business seat
- Cheryl Crespi elected to the committee.

a. Promotion and Tenure Committee (P. Halloran)
- will be on the September 26 agenda
b. Diversity Committee (J. Werblow)
- Report accepted by the Faculty Senate
c. Information Technology Committee (S. Wu)
- Report accepted by the Faculty Senate
d. Committee on Academic Advising (J. Bishop)
- Report accepted by the Faculty Senate
e. University Athletics Board (L. Clark, P. Resetarits)
- will be on the September 26 agenda
f. Library Committee (P. Foster)
- will be on the September 26 agenda
g. University Planning and Budget Committee (C. Valk)
- will be on the September 26 agenda
- Senator Blitz read a resolution on the UPBC that he would like to be included on the September 26 agenda.
6. New Business:
- President Cohen proposed to appoint Senators J. Bishop, Cistulli, Foster, and Jarvis to the Steering Committee.
- Senator Phillips pointed out that everyone on the proposed Steering Committee would be of European descent.
- Steering Committee approved (2 senators opposed and at least one abstention)

- Approved unanimously
c. Academic Calendar for 2017-21 (S. Adair)
- Senators are encouraged to send feedback about the proposal to Stephen Adair. One concern is that the proposed calendar includes few to no days in the Fall semester before the beginning of classes.
