2. Announcements:
a. AAUP President (M. Mahony)
- The recent news story about the work of Thomas Mione, of the Biology department, was a result of the AAUP's public relations campaign. Go to www.csuconnects.org, and Like it on Facebook. Invite everyone you know in Connecticut to do the same. Our PR firm has written about 35 press releases about the work of CSU faculty. If you receive an e-mail from Meagan Maguire, it is from our PR firm and it is important.
- Ellen Benson is leaving. If you know a recent graduate who would be interested in her job, please tell the CCSU-AAUP President.
- Invite your colleagues to sign "An Academic Imperative for Transform CSCU 2020".
- The AAUP will be able to send some people to the Summer Institute; mark your calendars (it is usually in mid-to-late July).
- Recent issues for the AAUP have been Transform CSCU 2020 and sexual assault mandatory reporting.
b. SUOAF-AFSCME President
- The election for the E-Board has been conducted. The E-Board includes Lisa Bigelow, Mike Ansarra and Otis Mamed.
c. SGA (S. Sonet)
- Competition for a Cause has returned. CCSU will compete with the City of New Britain to collect food donations for a local food bank. This event starts today and ends November 24.
d. FAC to the Board of Regents (S. Adair)
- The road maps for the 35 Transform initiatives are being released. One issue will be exactly how faculty governance bodies will vote on these initiatives, and how the BOR will vote (hopefully, one initiative at a time, not all at once as a package).
e. President of the Senate (S. Cohen)
- The BOR has been releasing road maps, and the AAUP has been looking at them, to see which ones have contractual issues.
- The BOR will probably start looking at them in January, in preparation for a vote in March. We should send them our feedback by then.
- All road maps can be found on the BOR website.
- The two most crucial issues for us to look at involve transfers and online courses.
3. Committee Reports
a. Ad Hoc Committee on Vance Lecture (R. Wolff)
- 5 names of possible speakers have been suggested and will be sent to Nick Pettinico and Chris Galligan.
b. University Planning and Budget Committee (C. Valk)

c. Community Engagement Committee (R. Simmons)

4. Unfinished Business:
a. Central Teacher Education Committee proposal (M. Alfano)
- Dean Alfano presented his proposal for CTEC, which he claims will be a more nimble and inclusive structure than the existing one.
- CTEC will be advisory to the Dean of SEPS, with membership elected by faculty.
- Senator Foster asked whether CTEC replaces SEPS-GC. Answer: It takes over some of the function of SEPS-GC.
- CCSU-AAUP President Mahony said that, as long as all curricular changes go through the curriculum process, including approval by the Curriculum Committee and Faculty Senate, than the AAUP does not object to this.
- Motion (Foster/Wolff): The Faculty Senate supports the creation of the Central Teacher Education Committee.

5. New Business:
a. An Academic Imperative for Transform CSCU 2020 (M. A. Mahony)
- Motion (Johnson/Wood): The CCSU Faculty Senate endorses the document titled, "An Academic Imperative for Transform CSCU 2020".
- Approved unanimously
b. Community Engagement Committee (R. Simmons)
- Promotion and Tenure Policy amendment proposal
- Community Engagement Committee Chair Simmons presented the proposal, which he said would be helpful to recognize the work of faculty involved in Community Engagement.
- Senator Barr asked if departments that value Community Engagement are encouraged to add these items to their departmental promotion and tenure guidelines; Committee Chair Simmons answered in the affirmative.
- Senator Foster asked whether these things can already be counted towards promotion and tenure, and this amendment simply makes it explicit; Committee Chair Simmons answered in the affirmative.
- Committee Chair Simmons commented that the amendment is appropriate, given our designation as a Carnegie Community Engagement Institution.
- Professor Riem said that this gives DECs language that they can use in their letters.
- Senator Reasco asked about the definition of "agencies"; in particular, nonprofit or for profit? Committee Chair Simmons said that it is purposefully broad.
