1. Announcements:
a. AAUP President (J. Jones)
- President Jones announced the following:
- Friday, February 12 representatives from the four CSU AAUP will meet at the system office to discuss state budget deficits;
- Thursday, March 4 is the AAUP breakfast with state legislators.
b. SUOAF-AFSCME President (F. Bonvicini)
- Senator Bonvincini reported:
- Representatives from SUOAF-AFSCME will also attend the meeting at the systems office on February 12;
- A Brown bag session is scheduled for February 10 in Memorial Hall.
c. President of the Senate (C. Barrington)
- President Barrington made the following announcements:
- I’m turning over the first segment of my announcement to Senator Jason Sikorski for a very brief announcement.
- J. Sikorski of the Psychology Department announced a project in conjunction with the Counseling Center. Faculty would like to visit classrooms to conduct a survey on alcohol awareness, March 8 through March 19. Any interested faculty should sign up.
- Currently, two campus-wide open forums concerning the New Time Blocks for Spring 2011 are scheduled for Tuesday, 2 March 10:00-10:45 and Wednesday 3 March 4:00-4:45. If you represent a department or division with continuing concerns about the schedule, please make certain someone represents those concerns at one of these two forums.
- Please note that the Board of Trustees’s next meeting will be held our campus, Wednesday, 10 February 2010, in Alumni Hall. An open forum with faculty is scheduled for 11:20.  Please mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend.
- President Miller and I will continue the Presidential Open Forums this spring. The first is set for Wednesday, 24 February at 11:00 am; the second is set for Tuesday, 6 April 2010 at 3:30 pm.  Both will be held in the Connecticut Dining Room.

2. Minutes of 1/25/09 were moved for approval by Senator Abadiano. (Passed)
3. Reports:
*a. Graduate Studies Committee:
- K. Weiss reviewed details of the report. (Passed)
b. Excellence in Teaching Committee:
- O. Petkova discussed the process used in 2009, problems encountered and possible solutions to committee work. Suggestions were made regarding committee by-laws. These issues were referred to the Senate Committee on Committees and the Elections Committee for analysis and resolution.
4. Unfinished Business:
a. Constitution and By-Laws Committee:
- D. Spector discussed proposed changes and recommendations and answered questions from the floor.
- *Senator Mulrooney moved to accept the changes to the By-Laws.(Passed)
- *The vote on the Constitution changes will be scheduled 2 weeks before the next university wide committee elections.
b. Resolution to the Board of Trustees:
- President Barrington discussed the proposed                 resolution to members of the BOT:
- "The CCSU Faculty Senate resolves that, because too much power in the hands of the Chancellor harms the individual CSU universities, the CCSU Faculty Senate urges;Â (1) the BOT reverse its October 2009 policy so that the full Board shall initiate and be fully involved in decisions of non-continuation of university Presidents, and (2) the BOT ensure the independence of the four universities by resisting further efforts to centralize decision making in the System Office."
- Modifications were taken from the floor.
- It was suggested that “the CCSU Faculty Senate urges” be added before (1).Â
- Senator Wood moved to postpone.
- After some discussion the question was called. (Passed)Â
- The vote on the move to postpone with 2 in favor was defeated.
- Senator Karpuk moved to amend by substitution to go back to the original wording, with the “the CCSU Faculty Senate urges” added. The vote: 4 abstentions, 1 against, (Passed)
- Senator Glagovich called the question, (Passed)
- The vote on the resolution as amended: 51 in favor, 2 abstentions. (Passed)
