        Curriculum Committee Report (Pudlinski, Chair):

The Chair of the Curriculum Committee explained there were no changes to the preliminary curriculum report and the Mechanical Engineering program will have to be approved by the Department of Higher Education.
Sen. Westcott moved to accept the report.
Sen. Craine indicated the Department of Mathematical Sciences support for the entire proposal and that his department would be proposing a substitute for Math 228 which is currently a pre-requisite for ME 345 in the proposal. But he did not want this to hold-up the Senate's approval.
Sen. Sevitch commented that "adopting" a report indicates a stronger action than "accepting" a report.
Sen. Westcott withdrew his motion to "accept" the Curriculum Committee report and made a new motion to "adopt" the Curriculum Committee report.
He also asked whether the name of the School of Technology would change after approval of the program addition.
Sen. Murphy raised questions on whether the existing Engineering Technology program would be replaced, how the university would get extra faculty/staff/facilities/space/equipment needed and whether these will get priority compared to other needs of the university.
Sen. O'Connell expressed support for the motion from the Department of Computer Science. Personally, as an active member of IEEE, he saw the need for this addition to the program and felt it was essential if we were to grow as a university. It would also get us greater community recognition.

Chair Gates of Engineering Technology made the following points:
        1. Faculty in Engineering Technology support both the existing program and the addition of the Mechanical Engineering program. Students can have a choice of which program to join based on their satisfying the pre-requisites.
        2. There has been no discussion in the School of Technology on any name change
        3. President Miller (CCSU) addressed the questions related to staffing, space and equipment at the last senate meeting.
Motion passed with 1 against and 1 abstention.

4 . Motion to adjourn: ( 3.25 pm) - ( Westcott ): Passed unanimously
