President Best called the meeting to order at 3.07 p.m. in  Vance Lecture Hall.

II.                 Announcements

 

a.       AAUP Report. AAUP Pres. Jones

 

President Jones stated AAUP-Faculty social was held last Thursday at same time as President’s Holiday Party. Small group had interesting discussion. CSU-AAUP - UCONN and Capital Community College’s ad campaign  was aired on TV. Discussion ensued about the amount of money CCSU received in proportion to UCONN. Jones felt the 15 million spent by the Systems office included computers services, etc. and is not as bad as it looks.

Sen. Halkins questioned why the  addition of pre-requisites to graduate courses. Sen. Pudlinsky discussed the fact that this is a better way to filter students in and out of grad courses. Discussed role of and effectiveness of Banner in the process of filtering. Discussion of cross listing of IDP courses and the cross listing is in the works. Banner can facilitate the cross listing. Currently only courses that are already through the curriculum committee will be cross- listed. If new courses are to be cross- listed, this will go through the curriculum commiteee. This will help IDP courses obtain more visibility. Steven Adair is assistant to the Dean of A&S and is organizing the IDP cross listing. Contact him if there are any questions.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENT FOR BSED IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

 

Undergraduate:

1.   Completed 45 credits, of which 15 have been earned at CCSU

2.   Completed 5 semester hours of PE lecture classes with 3 semester hours in PE 213

3.   Completed 3 semester hours of PE skill classes

4.   An average GPA of 3.0 in all major classes at CCSU

 

Graduate:

1.   Enrolled in or completed 5 semester hours in PE 111, PE 210, PE 213, PE 214, PE 216, PE 300, or PE 305 courses taken at CCSU

2.   Enrolled in or completed 3 semester hours of skill courses at CCSU

3.   An average GPA of 3.0 in all major classes at CCSU

 

These new requirements will apply to all students majoring in physical education NK-12.  Since we recommend that students apply to the professional program the fourth semester after enrolling at CCSU these new requirements will apply to students entering Spring 2004.  Thus, these new requirements for the Professional Program in Physical Education will begin with applications submitted in the Fall semester 2005.

Revised Program Admissions Requirements

BA Graphic / Information Design

 

Acceptance into the University and participation in the Pre Graphic / Information Design program does not guarantee acceptance into the Graphic / Information Design major.

Acceptance into the GID major is competitive and is limited by the number of students who can be accommodated. A student must receive a score of 85 or better on the comprehensive assessment administered in DES 122 Introduction to Graphic / Information Design to be considered for admission. DES 122 may be repeated only with the permission of the Department Chair.

These criteria will apply to students admitted to the University in the Spring of 2004 or later and students who change their major to Pre GID in the Spring 2004 or later.

    1. Graduate Studies Report – Sen. Mejia

Much discussion ensued over the graduate studies proposals. The following was passed

 

1) Students who are dismissed from a graduate program will not be allowed to take courses for graduate credit unless they have the permission of the instructor, the chair of the department offering the course and the Dean of Graduate Studies

                                                                                    Passed: Passed: 22 yes; 5 No; Abstentions-2

 

2) A student who has been conditionally accepted into a graduate program is normally given only one opportunity to fulfill all conditions. A second attempt may be granted by the department and the Dean of Graduate Studies; however no student will be granted more than two opportunities to fulfill any conditions.

  1. Unfinished Business

Provost Arends updated the Senate members and discussed issues related to strategic planning. A Website will be created over winter break and should be available during the Spring semester so that all faculty can access the information. Faculty input was encouraged and sought after by the Provost. For further information, contact Provost Arends or Chair of the UPBC.

 

 

  1. New Business


 

a. Sen. Terezakis informed the Senate that  Senate Resolution FS-92-B-10 “Evaluation and recommendation for renewal, tenure, promotional assessment”  does not reflect current contract language as written in Article 8.3.1 through 8.8.1.5 for Counseling  faculty and should be brought up to date. Whereas the criteria is the same, their order/weight has been rearranged.

 

    1. Proposed Motion: “That the current FS-92-10-B Revision of April 1992 changed to be consistent with article 8.3.1”.  (See attached revision).

 

Motion: Terezakis/Martin-Troy

Passed Unanimously

 

b. Sen. Kawecki informed the Senate that  Senate Resolution FS-92-B-10 “Evaluation and recommendation for renewal, tenure, promotional assessment”  does not reflect current contract language as written in Article 6.8 for Athletic Trainors and should be brought up to date. Whereas the criteria is the same, their order/weight has been rearranged.

 

 

Motion  b was tabled and referred back to Sen Kawecki  to re-check language to be consistent with contract language before being brought back to Senate

 

 

     

      The meeting adjourned at 3.35. p.m.
