University Athletics Board

Meeting of 5/7/2008

Present: Bantley, Carter, English,  Jones, Moran, Morano

Regrets: Harakiewicz, Oliva, Strickland

 1.         The minutes for 4/2 were approved as amended to include Doug as present.

 2.         CJ's AD report included these items:

               a.         The NEC football champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA championship play-                           offs beginning 2010.

               b.         The academic awards ceremony for student-athletes is tonite; Doug and Parker will attend.

               c.         NEC meetings will be held 5/20 through 5/22.

               d.         The last coaches meeting for this semester will be 5/13; the first one for Fall Semester will be 8/25.

               e.         The host hotel contract has been issued to the Marriotts at Farmington and at Cromwell.

 3.         Doug observed that the UAB must periodically review the gender/racial equity plan of Athletics, and compliance with it.  We will begin this review in the fall.

 4.         Parker will forward to the Senate President a letter of 2 May, 2008 from the NCAA “to recognize and congratulate the athletics department as one of those recognized for a Diversity in Athletics Award in the category(s) of Gender Diversity.”

 5.         Everyone thanked Toni for her leadership this past year.
