The Information Technology Committee, in response to
Senate President Barrington’s request to clarify our functions at the
university, has two items for the Senate to vote on:
I. By-laws revisions
A. We would amend IV: Functions and
Responsibilities to read:
1.
The faculty senate’s Information Technology Committee is
responsible for establishing priorities for academic computing at
Central Connecticut State University. “Academic computing” includes:
faculty computing, classrooms, labs, software, training, and the
websites of schools, departments, and faculty members.
2.
The ITC is charged with:
·
Prioritizing all projects related to academic
computing that require IT department resources. Purchases formerly
handled through the budget process, through appeals to deans, or to the
CIO, or through departmental expenditure, should be referred to the ITC
for consultation and prioritization.
·
Developing policy recommendations related to
academic computing.
·
Reviewing all policies that impact academic
computing.
3.
The ITC reports to:
·
The senate annually
·
The newly-created IT Governance Committee (on which the
ITC is represented) on a schedule to be established.
B. We
would amend our quorum rules (II.6) to read: “A quorum at any regular or
special meeting will consist of 50%+1 of the voting members present.”
II. CSU system-level directives impacting academic
computing
We ask the senate to adopt the following
resolution:
The president of the
faculty senate will ask the CSU vice chancellor for academic affairs to
urge the CSU CIO to consult with the academic computing governance
structures of the four universities on decisions related to academic
computing.
